Change Audio Speed

Upload an audio file and change its playback speed — from 0.5x half speed to 2x double speed. The tool uses ffmpeg's atempo filter to adjust the tempo. The audio pitch shifts naturally with the speed change, similar to playing a record at the wrong speed.

This is useful for speeding through long podcasts or lectures, slowing down music to learn parts, creating tempo-shifted versions of audio content, or adjusting pacing for voiceover work. The 0.5x-2x range covers the most common use cases while maintaining good audio quality.

Everything runs in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm — your audio is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pitch change when I change speed?

Yes — speeding up raises the pitch and slowing down lowers it, similar to playing a record at the wrong speed. This is the natural behavior of the atempo filter. Pitch-preserving time stretching requires more complex processing not available in this tool.

Why is the range limited to 0.5x-2x?

The ffmpeg atempo filter produces good results in the 0.5x-2x range. Extreme values outside this range require chaining multiple atempo filters and can introduce audible artifacts.

Can I use this to speed up a podcast?

Yes, this is one of the most common uses. 1.25x or 1.5x are popular speeds for podcast listening — fast enough to save time but still comprehensible for most speakers.
