The Paper Room

Image Metadata Viewer

Upload any image and instantly see every metadata field it contains — camera make and model, lens info, exposure settings, timestamps, software used, color profile, and more. The viewer parses EXIF, IPTC, and XMP blocks and displays them in a searchable table.

If the image contains GPS coordinates, the viewer highlights them and provides a direct link to view the location on Google Maps. This is useful for verifying where a photo was taken, auditing what personal information is embedded before sharing, or inspecting technical shooting details for photography workflows. Everything runs in your browser — the image is never uploaded anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What types of metadata does this read?

It reads EXIF (camera settings, orientation, GPS), IPTC (captions, keywords, copyright), and XMP (extended metadata from editing software). The exact fields present depend on the camera or app that created the image.

Why does my image show no metadata?

Some apps and social media platforms strip metadata on upload or export. Screenshots, images saved from the web, and images processed through certain editors may also lack EXIF data. PNG files from non-camera sources rarely contain EXIF blocks.

Is GPS data always present in phone photos?

Only if location services were enabled for the camera app when the photo was taken. Most phones include GPS by default, but users can disable it in their camera or privacy settings. Photos taken with location services off will have no GPS fields.

Does viewing the metadata modify my image?

No — this tool only reads the file. It never writes to or modifies your original image in any way.
