The Paper Room

Markdown Previewer

Edit Markdown in a full-height editor and see the rendered HTML preview update live as you type. The preview supports GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM) including tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code blocks, and autolinked URLs.

The side-by-side layout puts the editor on the left and the preview on the right on desktop screens, and stacks them vertically on mobile. This mirrors the workflow of writing in a Markdown editor like Typora or VS Code's preview pane.

Useful for drafting README files, blog posts, documentation, and any content destined for a platform that renders Markdown. The rendering uses the marked library and runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or saved.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown flavor is supported?

The previewer uses GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), which extends standard Markdown with tables, task lists (checkboxes), strikethrough (~~text~~), fenced code blocks with language hints, and automatic URL linking.

Does it support syntax highlighting in code blocks?

Fenced code blocks are rendered with the language class (e.g., class="language-javascript") but full syntax highlighting with colors is not included to keep the tool lightweight. The code is displayed in a monospace font with a subtle background.

Can I use HTML inside the Markdown?

Yes. Inline HTML is passed through to the preview, so you can use tags like <details>, <summary>, <kbd>, or when Markdown syntax doesn't cover what you need.

Is my content saved?

No. The editor content lives only in your browser's memory for the current session. Refreshing the page resets to the sample text. Copy your work before leaving if you need to keep it.
