Splitting the bill is built in — set the number of people and the calculator divides the total evenly, showing the per-person amount. A currency selector lets you switch between common symbols ($, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, and more) so the display matches wherever you are.

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard tip percentage in the US?

In the US, 15-20% is the standard range for sit-down restaurant service. 15% is considered acceptable, 18% is common, and 20% or more is generous. For counter service or takeout, 0-10% is typical. Tipping norms vary by country — many countries outside the US don't tip or tip much less.

How do I calculate a tip without a calculator?

For a 10% tip, move the decimal point one place left. For 20%, double the 10% amount. For 15%, take the 10% amount and add half of it. For example, on a $48 bill: 10% = $4.80, so 15% = $4.80 + $2.40 = $7.20, and 20% = $9.60.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Etiquette guides generally say to tip on the pre-tax subtotal. In practice, many people tip on the total including tax for simplicity — the difference is usually small. This calculator uses the amount you enter, so enter whichever you prefer.

How does bill splitting work?

The calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) equally among the number of people you specify. Each person pays the same amount. If the split isn't perfectly even, the per-person amount is rounded to two decimal places.
